Our Story

2015

Foundation

In 2015, Karen & Chris embarked on a transformative journey that began with a deeply personal mission—to heal their young son’s severe eczema. Frustrated by the lack of results from conventional treatments, they turned to nature, digging into research and eventually crafting their own skin-soothing soaps and salves using herbs and botanicals using local ingredients.

A Living Mission

What started as a family need quickly grew into a lifestyle. Karen & Chris began to see the connection between the toxins we consume and those we apply to our skin. Their commitment to clean living inspired them to create a line of all-natural health and wellness soaps and cosmetics that are as nurturing as they are effective.

Growth & Expansion

By 2021, they were presented with an opportunity and opened The Soap Factory in Logan Heights, San Diego. This space allows them to grow many of their own ingredients and distill some of their own essential oils on-site. The facility serves not only as a production site, but as a community hub—hosting events, hands-on soap-making and garden workshops, and educational experiences that highlight the profound difference between conventional products and those rooted in nature.
2023

Award recognition

In 2023, Karen received multiple honors recognizing her leadership and advocacy for women entrepreneurs. She was formally recognized by the California State Senate and the California Legislature Assembly for empowering women through entrepreneurship and community-based business. That same year, she was awarded a Certificate of Recognition from the Consulado de México, receiving the Women Resilience Award for her dedication, perseverance, and positive impact across communities.

Rooted In Purpose

Today, Karen and Chris continue to handcraft each product with care, grow community through education, and help families reduce toxins while reconnecting with the healing power of the earth—one bar of soap, one garden, and one empowered life at a time.

Education and empowerment are central to their mission. Chris is deeply committed to youth mentorship and teaches horticulture to promised youth, guiding them in how to grow their own food, design productive and regenerative gardens, and understand the entrepreneurial potential within agriculture. Through hands-on learning, he empowers young people with practical skills, confidence, and a vision for self-sufficiency rooted in the land.

Karen and Chris’s work and impact have been recognized both locally and nationally. They have been featured in interviews with the San Diego Business Journal, The San Diego Union-Tribune, SD Voyager, and Univision, and highlighted in ActitudM Magazine, VUE Magazine, and the Imperial Valley Press for their commitment to wellness, sustainability, and community empowerment.
